I have Microsoft CRM 2011 installed  & one user intermittently gets this message when he tries to create or open a quote (see attached).  I am wondering if someone can help us with this.

Hi Sanjay,

It seems a custom security role is applied to the user and a necessary privilege that is required to load dependent entity records might be getting blocked.

Can you confirm if the user can open the same record without this error?

Regards,
Chinmay.

Thanks, Chinmay! The user can open the same QUOTE record with no issues. It's observed that the error comes only when user adds a QUOTE for a SPECIFIC  customer account. The error also comes if he pulls any quote in CRM & changes the customer account to the SPECIFIC customer name.. The Interesting thing is another user does all the QUOTE related issues w/o any problem even for the SPECIFIC customer.

When you say Custome security Role, you mean in CRM or in Active Directory accounts?

Do you have any custom plugins/Workflow installed or maybe Javascript. Is it possible that your Dev / Customization team left something in the code?

Also, I was talking about Security Role in CRM.

But what you are describing looks like an error maybe a deliberate one. This should not happen in OOB feature.

Are you 100% sure what you have described is the cause? i.e. Specific name throws this error?

Chinmay,
The issue is resolved.  Here are some details. We are not "front end CRM" guys so writing more in Table/Fields lingo.

For the two accounts, we had the problem with & we drilled, we found the “ownertype” field in CRM table “accountbase”  had a value of 9, we changed it to 8 & it stopped giving this error message. Most of the customer user accounts for this sales rep had a value of 8 as we observed.

Thanks, A bunch for your help.

Hi Sanjay,

I am glad it worked out well for you guys but I would seriously reconsider the changes you have made. Any change that is made in CRM directly by modifying the database is not supported and can have serious ramification - Especially when you apply updates or when you upgrade (As such 2011 is safe till July 2021 as its extended support will work till then).

Ownertype is nothing but a flag that determines if the entity is organization owned or user owned. And the value is enum so I really doubt if 9 is a valid value by any means. Preferred way to make this change would have been by CRM Entity Customization screen though.

Regards,
Chinmay.
