-disconnect all external devices<br />
-restart a couple of times; and - if it shows no better screens, interrupt during the bootup by pulling the AC plug &nbsp;( for laptops- you need to remove the battery first) - this will give you the recovery options - &nbsp;you can select the advanced options to work from there (install drivers etc..)

Black screen after login could be the display options. Right-click on desktop and personalize to change settings.<br />

A Windows logo in a corner, suggests explorer loaded and start menu along with the taskbar are present, meaning explorer.exe is running.<br />
If not, ctrl-alt-del taskmanager, run explorer.exe

Further to all the points raised above I am convinced this is a graphics problem. Given that I have the windows logo on bottom left of screen can i update the video drivers

It is unclear as was pointed out whether the update completed and you can get to the login promot after which you see a black screen with .....<br />

One option, is to use ctrl-alt-del taskmanager or left ctrl-shift-ESC to get taskmanager running, run the task explorer and see whether you can get everything......<br />

Do you have multiple displays that are assembled verticle versus horizontally?<br />
<br />
Can not visualize what you mean by Windows logo in the corner.<br />
I.e. Whether when the system booting up, the Windows logo is in the corner, or the start button is there but you can not do a thing.....

Bring up the task mgr and run a command prompt. &nbsp;Then type in whoami. &nbsp;I am leaning towards profilemissue personally

Thanks Arnold. &nbsp;All installed smoothly until client had signed in and then I got the blank screen with the cursor, start button. I tried Task manager but nothing showed. I can right click on the desktop <br />

There are ways to create a new profile but likely you are going to have future issues. &nbsp;Your overall best bet is to do a clean install
