existing router in place I just need it as an Access point
Set the LAN address of the RV110w to something that is on the same subnet as your main network, turn off DHCP on the RV110w, and connect it to the main LAN through one of the LAN ports (NOT the WAN/Internet port).  I usually put a piece of black tape over the WAN/Internet port to make sure someone doesn't "correct" my connection.

I followed your suggestions and it worked .. had done similar years ago ...

Lastly it has "router mode" and some other mode I cant recall ...

What mode should it be in?
If you connect it as I suggested, "router mode" should work.  It may have an "AP mode", which would be more appropriate.  If it's working, though, leave it as is!
