CANON MX884 Printer Copier Scanner query not scanning

Say, this inkjet printer, CANON MX884 Printer Copier Scanner, is giving an error message on the screen, ink cartridges need to be filed and thus won't scan. I know there's a work around but have forgotten what it is. We want to just scan to the computer. Please can you advise the simple steps, thanks.

Many printers, including most Canons, will only scan when the printer is fully operational. That means the printer must be ready to print, i.e. without any error messages.

The following procedure works for some Canon printers. See if it works for yours.

Press and hold “Stop” for 5 seconds. The Alarm should clear and the printer will allow you to scan once again.
