Does the afflicted computer in fact have any USB devices attached to it? If so, what are they? Have you tried detaching them one at a time to see which one is the source of the problem?

also make sure that any usb devices that are plugged in are plugged in firmly ie the keyboard and mouse. It is possible that the may be partially unplugged causing this issue if this and the above suggestions dont work, let us know so we can troubleshoot further. Do you get both the popup in the system tray saying the device is unplugged or a new device is plugged in or is it just the sound that you get? Does it occur continuously or every 5 to 10 seconds or is it less often?

what USB devices do you have plugged in? try unplugging them 1 by one till the sound stops
sorry - i must have overlooked it...
note it may sound like usb - but there are more windows apps that sound alike, more or less
you can do a system restore to a date it was ok - that fixes you up in less then 1/2 hour...

nobus makes a very good point. All the bings dings and peeps sound much alike. Unless the USB device notification icon is coming up in the tray, this may not be a USB issue at all.
