VGA to HDMI Adapter

Is it ok to use a vga to HDMI adapter to connect a spare smart TV that I have to a mini server?  Heard the quality is not good as it is a analog to digital conversion but not sure if this will damage the smart tv.  I use the smart TV for a trade show and when not in use, I'd to use to as an external monitor (so that I can put it in use).  It is at least 42 inch.

The video display will be terrible but this will not damage the smart tv.

Why?

The display of a TV is not designed to be a monitor as the normal viewing distance is very different.

For a 42" TV, the viewing distance is 1.6 m – 2.7 m.

Anyway, you need to buy one VGA to HDMI converter like the one below and you will know the above from experiencing why viewing distance does matter.
