battery problems on laptop

is there any way to see battery health on a laptop ? this is a refurbished laptop and I noticed on a full charge it only lasts around half hour which is not good.

it’s is a lenovo t430 so I am thinking of getting a battery on Amazon.

I am seeing some kind of cheap but I not sure if they are any good

The Windows battery health meter, or equivalent utility supplied by the laptop manufacturer, is about the only indication of remaining battery charge.  And this is not a particularly reliable indication, because as the battery ages and the available charge becomes less and less, there gets to be a significant discrepancy between what Windows thinks is available and the actual charge remaining.

Half an hour on a full charge is not necessarily bad performance depending on what the system is doing and how the power control options are set.  If the power control options are set for maximum performance and full brightness, half an hour might in fact be quite good.

The only way to know for sure is to swap in a new / rebuilt battery and see what the new pack does as compared to the original pack.

Do note that if a replacement battery pack costs $60, it probably makes more sense to look at a new laptop instead.

On Lenovo it’s ThinkVantage Power Manager where you can find the battery condition. A T430 is a nice machine, I’d be willing to spend $60 on a new battery.
