Opening file directly from Firefox fails

Hi! I have a user who is having the attached error when trying to open an Excel file directly from a web page when using Firefox. When saving to a specific folder and opening the file from there everything works fine. Anyone have any ideas? It's Excel in Office 365 on Windows 10 Pro.

You could use the SysInternals utility called Process Monitor to watch the file system operations when this error appears.  It would certainly show you 1) To where Firefox tried to save the file (and any error code), 2) From where Excel tried to open the file (and any error code), and 3) Whether there were any other operations in between the two, such as those instigated by AV scanners that might have deleted the downloaded file.

Thanks Bill, that's a really interesting tool! Unfortunately I didn't need it to track down the cause. Your comment about AV possibly getting in the way made me just try disabling that first. So I went to the user this morning, disabled AV, tried again, and it worked fine! I re-enabled and tried again to see if the problem happened again, but this time it didn't. So I am not sure what stopped the problem from recurring when I tried today.

I am fairly sure antivirus was the problem though when trying to confirm I couldn't replicate the issue again. But it was fine after I disabled the A/V.
