asked on

PTR (Reverse Lookup) how to, when I don't want to use my ISP as my DNS name server.

Experts, Here is the situation. I have two ISPs providing a primary and a backup internet service.  I use a mail scanning service which then connects to O365 for email.  I have a sperate DNS host (Cloudfiair) to host our DNS record along with our website.  I have my servers in my LAN setup to send SMTP notifications to our mailscanning service but I've been getting Blacklisted by RATS Dyna for RTP (Reverse Lookup)  failure.  I have DNS set up with Cloudflair to resolve a name lookup correctly, but they don't offer RTP.  I spoke to my ISP and they can provide RTP,  but would need to migrate my domain to be hosted by them which I don't plan to do.  Any other recommendations?

For bulk mailings use a bulk mail provider i.e. EasySendy Pro, MailChimp. AWeber, Mad Mimi, GetResponse, Constant Contact,Amazon Simple Email Service (SES), SendGrid, Mandrill, SparkPost

What do you mean a mail scanning service? If you mean an external to Office 365 spam mail filter then you shouldn't be using it for outbound only inbound. For low volume you should be using office 365 for outbound as well

You said, "I spoke to my ISP and they can provide RTP,  but would need to migrate my domain to be hosted by them which I don't plan to do."

1) You mean PTR record, not RTP.

Best to edit your title + description to PTR, so more comments will occur.

2) Keep in mind the only entity which can change your PTR record is the IP owner. This will be an ISP or hosting company or provisioning company.

3) If they require you migrate your domain to be hosted with them, then if you require a PTR record, you must adhere to their requirements of moving your hosting to them.

4) Note: Your question... requires clarification... PTR records only come into play for sending MTAs. PTR records have no effect for receiving mail.

If you're sending mail, use a Relay Service like MailGun, else you'll have a massive amount of work ahead of you.

If you must send mail, move your sites to a provisioning company like OVH, which allows you to set PTR records in their dashboard. Then go through the https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/29165628/Sending-Email-by-getting-email-address-from-database.html checklist to get to a point where you can start warming up an IP or IP pool for sending.

If you aren't sending mail, then no PTR record is required.
