MS SQL Install with domain server account - how to create SQL Server Agent server account in AD

I am installing MS SQL Standard 2017 on a VM Server.  During the configuration I am getting an error during the install during the Server Configuration step that states:

To access the UNC path \\xxx\xx, the SQL Server Agent service account must be a domain account.  To continue use a local path with a drive letter or provide a domain account with SQL Server Agent Services.

I would prefer to use the UNC.  The unc path is on the same physical server.

Please provide recommendations and how to complete the install with good step by step instructions.
