Verify Windows Update Installation

Hi All,

Quick quesion about Windows Updates. I am checking to make sure I have a required update before making a few recommended changes (ldap hardening). I can see that update rollup required (4025341) is lsted in the update history. I can however find the corresponding number in the installed updates. (Server 2008 R2). Same for the last monthly update in Jan, i can see it listed in the update history, but not in the installed updates.

How can i tell for definite that I have the required update - or is update history enough to know that it is installed?

Cheers,
Paul

Side note: if you care about security, let go server 2008 R2. The OS is end of life.

Hi,

We are only keeping 2008 R2 for a little while, waiting for a third part app to be upgraded before we can finish migrating to 2016. Sorry just re-read my original question. I meant to say that I can find the required roll up update in the update history. I can’t find it in the installed windows updates. Should I be able to find the corresponding kB number from the installed history to the installed updates. Is the update being listed in the history proof that it is still installed on the server?

Cheers.

Cool, that PS command worked a treat. Ok I cant find the particular update I am looking for. However Am i correct in thinking that as this update is part of a rollup package. If I have have the latest rollup installed (Jan 14) confirmed, then I have the needed update installed, but I wont see it becuase it will only show the latest rollup?

get-hotfix shows all installed updates. So it does not "get" and install updates right now, it just retrieves what is already installed and lists it. So in the future, just use these commands to find out whether some update is installed or not.

Hi,

I undertsnad that it it only lists what is currently installed, it dosnt install updates itself. My question once if I confirm that I have the latest Roolup update, then by default i already have the one i am looking for, but it wont be listed becuase the new rollup replace the superceneded one?

Is my thinking correct?

Thanks for all your help
