Minute-by-minute backup of a share on windows 2012 file server
Hi
We have a windows 2012 file server and i have created a share called "STU"
Within this share “STU”, I have created home directories -HomeU1, HomeU2, HomeU3…. HomeU4.....HomeU10 for User1, User2....User10.
When User1, User2, User3… User10 ...logs into a Win10 workstation, their respective home directories will be mapped and they will be working on a word document and saving to their home directories.
I would like to do minute-by-minute backup of the STU share to another folder in the file server and it will be only few megabytes per minute.
Is there any free software that can do this type of backup?
Any help will be great
Thanks

I agree with Roy and Paul. DFS might be a way to go. Maybe you have some questions about it so I suggest you check to Frequently Asked Questions.

Maybe you could use hardlinkbackup https://www.lupinho.net/en/hardlinkbackup/

Hi
Do i need to install the DFS on the Windows 2012 File server , where the "STU" share is located on E Drive- on the server ?
Or can i set up a DFS role of a another Windows 2012 member server and setup the backup?
Thanks

Typically DFS set up on the servers participating in the sync, but I imagine you could use a third server with mapped drives to do the same thing. I've never tested that, so wouldn't trust it until I had beat it up a little.
Robocopy may also fit your needs. It comes with Windows (or is available via download) and will do what you need, but will require a little work to get it doing what you want.
Lastly, a COTS product like ViceVersa sits somewhere between DFS and Robocopy. It's not free, but I use it for replicating files to a DR site and it works pretty well for me.
