Configure SBS 2003 to send alerts using external email

A client is finally migrating away from SBS 2003, and we just migrated their email to O365. Is there a way to configure the server to still send out alerts and performance reports using external email (specifically O365)? Just looking for something to work for a couple weeks before we setup a new CD and decom the SBS machine.

The on-premises Exchange built-in to SBS 2003 could provide the necessary relay until its retired.

Small Business Server (SBS) is a line of server operating systems targeted at small businesses by bundling the operating system with a number of other Microsoft products that would normally need to be purchased or licensed separately. The most notable inclusions are Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint and ISA/TMG (Microsoft's firewall and proxy server).
