I need to compare 2, or more laptops/desktops for speed and performance, can someone recommend a good utility, possibly a free one?

The best test, and I/M/O the only one that counts, is to run the intended application on each system and see which one runs faster/better.

Two systems A and B may have benchmarks that show A is faster, and yet B may perform better on the desired application.  Hard drive vs. SSD, amount of memory, whether memory is balanced, memory speed ... all these things factor in.  E.g., if one intends a large database application and system A has 32 GB of memory with a 2 GHz CPU while system B has 4 GB with a 3.5 GHz CPU, system A is arguably a better fit.
