Oracle RMAN Backup Hangs and Doesn't Complete
We use RMAN to backup our Oracle 12.1C RAC database. We have a Solaris cron job and database backups are scheduled. Recently RMAN backups started to just hang, just stop and not progress. We have been scratching our heads as there doesn't appear to be anything different than we have been doing for the last year. Any ideas, or recommendations to sort this out?
Check the alert.log files (for all of the RAC nodes). One or more of them may contain an error message related to whatever is causing RMAN to hang up.
You probably checked this already, but make sure that none of your disk volumes (or files systems) is 100% full.
Check CPU usage on all RAC nodes to make sure there isn't a runaway process using 100% of a CPU.

Confirmed absolutely nothing in alert.log pertaining to RMAN on any of the nodes. File system space is only 65%, CPU usage is not overburdened.
Where do I find the RMAN log? We have turned on the debug flag on the RMAN command, and that was less than helpful so far.

You could query following view(s):
select * from gv$rman_output;
--or
select * from v$rman_output;
You would need to specify the log location in the RMAN script:

No smoking gun with RMAN hanging. Filesystem is only at 35%, CPUs are not pegged on any of the 3-nodes. Nothing jumps out querying, the view gv$rman_ouput. Need some more ideas/intel, suspect we will open Service Request with Oracle Corp. From my past experience I know the better information you are able to give Oracle, will get you better and quicker solution. Again, completely duped. Help.

My bad, thought this had been closed. Simple bounce of the database seem to clear this up!
What does the RMAN log file or output show?
