You should try these 2 things first.  Reset the SMC and Reset the PRAM.  These 2 resets are relatively quick and fix a bunch of random semmingly hardware issues.  If you still have issues then reinstall the OS, without wiping the disk.  Be sure to make a backup before you attempt this just in case.

Reset SMC.
Turn off your MacBook
Plug in your charger
Press and hold the left shift control option keys and press and hold the power button.
Wait at least 5 seconds, then release.

Reset PRAM
Start your Mac, then immediately press and hold the command option p r keys.
The newer Macs do not chime, so you will need to watch your screen for it to briefly flicker on then off at least 3 times.
Release the 4 keys and let it boot normally.

If you still have issues after these, then you should boot into recovery mode and reinstall the OS.  This will take about 30 minutes on newer SSD Macs.  If you don't wipe use disk utility to erase the disk first, you should retain all your applications and user data.  It's still better to make a backup just in case.  This reinstall will replace all Mac OS X system files, basically replacing any files that may possibly have become corrupt.

These 3 steps fix a large number of issues that Mac users encounter and should be done periodically.
