Problems with printing with a serial connection.

Hello,

I am using a windows 10 workstation that is in a domain. I have a label printer connected to this workstation with a serial connection. Recently I start having a problem with the jobs not printing. I can see the Job in the print queue I see the status light blinking then the job disappears from the queue.
So far, I tried:
•      Connect the printer to another system: works fine.
•      Uninstall and reinstall printer:  No luck
•      Tried another printer on this workstation: No Luck

I’m pretty sure the issue is connected to the workstation.

I check the event logs and this one stood out to me and I am wondering if it could be connected to the print issue because I am using a COM port. Any thoughts?

Hello,

Thank you for confirming my theory. Yes, the COM port is integrated, unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to get a PCI COM port the environment that I’m in makes it difficult.
If you have only 1 COM Port you should check that COM Port settings on PC match those on the Printer. Such as Baud Rate (9600?) should be set the same. If the Printer is Zebra there are tools available in order to check at least if the communication between PC and Printer is working properly. Consider even lowering the Connection Speed.
Downlaod Ubuntu linux .make it bootable using Refus utility or write the ISO to a DVD and boot it from ubuntu linux dot install and select try option. Then see if the printer is able to print if it would then change the OS or try restoring (System restore point)this windows to a previous date .
Okay I can try a system restore point  but I can’t download unapproved software I’m in a real controlled environment.
Ok .But Ubuntu linux is GNU open-licence any can download and install.not licence based issue. If you are not allowed to do such things please avoid

Under printer properties, advanced, Make sure the printer is assigned to the correct COM port and it is not assigned to a different port (sometimes one can change this port by mistake while changing something else).

Uninstall your printer,
if possible disconnect all USB devices that you can (some usb devices can interfere with serial ports as they are serial ports themselves and under certain configurations or devices they could cause a proble like irq or address conflicts), and remove (uninstall) the serial port from device manager,
select show hidden devices and see if there is any USB or serial port marked as malfunctioning (yellow or red markers) and remove those also.

reboot computer , it will add the COM port again, reinstall your printer, do all of this things using administrator credentials.

if you still have problems and you have an identical PC around, install the working PC hard disk in the non working PC and see if you can print, in that case you will have discarded a faulty port/computer.

wow lol, actually surprised that someone suggested to change THE OS in order to fix a printer issue almost like suggesting to buy another computer or printer.
Hello I -am going to rebuild the system, I tried the restore point and the system never came backup.
if you reboot it should detect that it didnt come backup and should rollback any changes to the state before you attempted system restore

in administrative command prompt

type

mode

and compare the output with a working workstation

you can do

mode > "%userprofile%\desktop\comports_%computername%.txt"

it will put a file on your desktop with the com ports information
