what is happening with transfer of photo files from xp machine to windows 10 machine?
Before discarding an older XP computer I have transferred about 735 photos to a USB memory stick.
The photos are clearly visible on the XP machine as thumbnails. However, when transferred to a memory stick
and the memory stick inserted into a relatively new Windows 10 computer I see the files but they are only showing
with a small icon so I cannot tell what each icon is without opening the file. This would be extremely tedious.
Any ideas regarding what can be done? Under properties it says the files are .jpg.
Thanks,

That option is not there. However, with the right click on a given icon a context menu appears and one of the choices....
open with photos when selected does in fact open the photo and you can see the photo. However, I do not want to be doing this with
all 750 photos. It would be tedious beyond belief. What should I be doing here and also why is this happening?

So at the top of the folder just below x you should see drop down by the blue question mark. Select that.
Where the icon settings are, what is it set to? You can hover over each one and set it to your liking.

When I click on view at the top menu bar and select extra large icons a page appears with all of the thumbnails...this is ideal!
Thanks a lot for your help!
By the way why is this happening? Is it because the photos were in XP and now I am trying to look at this with a Windows 10 computer?

Yes, they were small icons then. The thumbnails of the photos were visible on the xp machine but when placed on the USB stick they
went to this icon where each photo had to be double clicked to open to view the photo.

I suspect when they were transfered it remebered the last settings for the photos.
You could test that by doing a transfer but first make them large icons on the xp machine.
Just a couple of photos to test. Then open the test ones on win 10 again see what happens.

I will do that tomorrow morning and let you know what happens when I try that. Also, after that, if it does not change the situation I will
try using a different memory stick. For some strange reason when I used this particular memory stick there was an adjacent icon that came up
called U3. I have no idea what caused that.

it looks like you are using an old U3 USB stick ( not used since 2008)
so the easiest way around should be use an other - non U3 stick and transfer the files with that one
info on u3 https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/U3_(computerstandaard)
