Windows 7 Extended Support

daskas27 asked
Hi, We have several machines that are running Windows 7. They are attached to machine tools and it will be very expensive to bring them up to Windows 10 so we purchased the extended support option for Windows 7 for these specific machines. I received a key but I am not sure how to apply it. I am assuming that I have to re-enter the product key and use the key that has been provided for the extended support but I want to be sure. I cannot afford to have any issues with these computers that require the extended support. I cannot find any specific instructions out there.

Thank you

To add an ESU Key you need the following updates installed:

If those are present as prerequisites then you can install

Now open a command window with elevated privileges (Run as administrator)

Change your previous key to the ESU key you have been provided by typing

slmgr /ipk <ESU KEY>

You should get an acknowledgment that the key has been installed.

Now capture the Activation ID for the PC

In the same window:

cscript "c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs" /dlv

Identify the line starting Activation ID:

and copy the hex code that follows the colon.

This next process now activates your new Key:

In the same window

slmgr /ato <ACTIVATION ID>

You should see a message that says your Year 1 add-on has been activated.

Close the CMD window and restart

That's it :)
