separate Excel column

Hello,

I have an Excel spreadsheet which contains something similar to the below:

Employee
Smith, Jane
Ortiz, Jon
Roberts, Donald
...

I want to separate the column into last name and first name:

Smith          Jane
Ortiz           Jon
Roberts      Donald
..

Please assist and advise a formula to do that.

Use text to columns under the data tab.  Pick delimited and use the comma as a delimiter.  If the data is not exactly as you showed (all with the commas) then there are other alternatives.

Use these formula:

in B2

=LEFT(A2, SEARCH(",", A2,1)-1)


in C2

=RIGHT(A2,LEN(A2)-FIND(",",A2,1))
