BootDevice not found - NOT a hard drive error/death

Corporate Windows 10 image

Used DISM to load image, image load and all files were successful and can be seen in the C drive.  DiskPart shows everything is as it should be

However; the EFI and Boot BCD were not there.

Manually created the EFI directory copying it from the Windows directory, manually re-created the BCD store.

Still, not working

Can't mark the System partition as active because it is a GPT partition, switching it to a MBR partition causes other problems

So, it is my theory the system cannot find the active partition to allow boot to work.  Automatic Startup Repair does not work.

How can I tell the BIOS of this HP machine to find the boot record so it can start the machine.

Thanks.

Thanks Tom, interesting idea. :)

That will take some time to backup the C partition, reinstall Windows, etc., but I may try that in the meantime.

If anyone has any other suggestions on fixing the Boot record/EFI let me know.  Thanks.

Backup will take around 1 hour to USB or network drive, then Windows installation about 15 minutes,,, then recovery around 1 hour. I think this is fastest way

Thanks for the suggestion Tom, that did resolve my problem.  I am sure there is a way to fix the BCD issue and I would like to know how to fix it without having to essentially wipe and reinstall then recover, but it definitely did work.  :)

I think it must be related to some connection between BCDLoader and Secure Boot in BIOS.
I try to do all suggestion I was able to find in internet to fix my problem on HP laptop with no success.
For EFI you don't need assign partition as active but still after manually created 3 Windows partition, copy EFI files, create BCD loader with new store and run Windows repair I was not able to boot computer so I did come out with recovery solution.

For some reason Windows installation process doing something we missed.
I'm wondering if someone else was able to repair HP boot - I mean create boot from scratch manually

I'm glad you was able to fix your problem.
