The update assistant may help you identify the software or hardware that causes this issue. an older version of windows 10 if you have it, might have better luck.<br />
usually, iof an older windows 10 upgrades without an issue, the subsequent version will work through it.<br />

have seen a discussion on a similar topic here at EE where an Intel Storage driver I think was preventing the upgrade as it was not compatible with the newer 1903 or 1909 version, the person had an 180x or 17xx version that upgraded the 7 to 10 and then the system could be brought to the current version.

You cannot do an upgrade from a bootable DVD, you CAN do a fresh load of Windows 10 and activate it with a Valid Windows License. &nbsp;At this point it appears that Windows 7 and 8, or 8.1 valid product keys work.<br />
If you do the upgrade from a working and licensed Windows 7 installation, it will preserve all of your files, settings and programs.<br />
The issues with upgrading are many.<br />
Some things to try:<br />
Remove antivirus and security software, let it have a wide open access.<br />
Download the .iso file and extract it to a folder in the root of C: drive, like C:\Win10, then run setup in that folder.<br />
Also, if you have disk errors, or malware on the computer it can fail.<br />
If it just won't upgrade, then the best thing to do, if you are intent on getting this computer to Windows 10, is to backup all of your data, I usually do a disk image backup to external HDD, then using a bootable DVD or USB for latest version of Windows 10 installer, made with the media creation tool, boot the computer, and do a fresh install. &nbsp;Delete all partitions on the hard disk that you will be installing on, and then let Windows installer create the partitions, this results in the recommended partition structure for your computer, and this version of Windows.<br />
Sit back let it churn, and when done, answer the questions and all that OOBE stuff, as well as create a user.<br />
If when done it works right, then you can copy the data back that you saved earlier, and have a fresh clean computer with all of your files intact, all software, printers, WiFi connections will need to be reconfigured,

It's failing again at 48%. I saw someone say online that he stopped the update early 3 times and the 3rd time system debug options became available. <br />

Your issue it seems that it fails on the front end loading the update, versus on the backend following the reboot, which is often when it identifies the compatibility, cause.<br />

In your case you have to look at the upgrade log.<br />

The other issue you might be encountering if using standard hard drive is the slowness ...<br />
One option depending the current storage use of your C: drive us to get an SSD of a larger size than current space usage.<br />
Cloned onto the SSD and run the upgrade booted from SSD.<br />
