Upgrade VMware vSphere from 5.1 to 5.5

Hi,

I've just taken over at a client running an older VMware vSphere version 5.1. I want to upgrade this to 5.5. The installation is running on IBM System x3650 M4 servers, which I have firmware upgraded. Do I need a customized ISO file for this, or can I just download the VMware vCenter Server 5.5 Update 3k and modules ISO from VMware and use this?

Are there any things that I should be aware of or upgrade in a specific order?

Thanks,
Ronnie

Is hardware supported ? e.g. on the HCL.

You can only update if you have a Support and Subscription, otherwise you are in breach of the EULA.

and as 5.5 is end of life, any renewal would require you to be on a Supported platform which will be 6.5 after March 2020.

You can use the ISO.

or you can follow these articles... just substitue the version

Hi,

yes the hardware is supported, and VMware support has confirmed that I can upgrade to 5.5.

Thanks for your help.
