Thank you Guys,

I have the same idea. however, I am not sure if I understood correctly but It says it only support  migration for 2010 and 2013 Sharepoint. What about sharepoint 2016 .

I am wondering few things

- i am decommission my domain sharepoint sites / File Shares lives in a domain X that I am decommision. I will be migrating my users groups to a new domain Y where we synced to office 365. So I can not directly migrate sharepoin sites / file shares i Domain X to the office 365 ( as currently there is no synced users from domain X to office 365 )

my plan is to migrate users/groups from Domain X (where permission is set to users /groups , etc ) to the ad domain Y and let migrated users synced to ms azure first and after that migrate sharepoint sites in Domain X to the office 365 using some sort of security mapping

I am trying to figure out if ShareGate has the ability to map security / permission to office 365 in this way.

and secondly, does ShareGate has free assessment module i can run to get initial information or I need to buy the tool for that too

Best Regards
yes it has great mapping abilities for security. SP 2016 should work fine (probably better :) ). What I did was install the trial (desktop version) and the analyzer will scan source and destination and tell you any issue you may encounter. Mostly template differences as I recall ( I was moving select sites from 2010 to O365).
