Windows 10 update fails and I need an older version of the update

Windows 10 update consistently fails at 48%.

I've tried direct update, disk boot based update and iso conversion to directory update.

Where can I find older versions of update than 1909?

Why do you feel that way?
Experience. Tried that here and there. You should rather locate and upload setuperr.log here.

Could you compare the contents of C:\WINDOWS\System32\Recovery to another machine?

I have a few machines. All the others are already on Windows 10. Any particular qualifications for the machine?
I would see the following as possible solution: if the folder I mentioned is really the problem source as the log makes believe, you could install win7 clean into a vm and take the folder contents and overwrite the recovery folder on your problematic machine.

I had many problems with some of our pc's that just wouldnt update, at the end we decided to install the newest version from scratch on those PCs, it was faster that trying to find a non existant solution from MS
you are running the upgrade from usb?  if so - on what pc model or mobo model?
i had trouble installing windows on a PCIe disk - installed on a PCIcard when installing from USB
Both the stick and the usb port were USB 3
i got different results, but all failed - till i used an 1803 version for the install i had lying around on an USB 2 stick
when installing from that - copnnected to an USB 2 port - all was ok !!!

I downloaded 1803 and it worked! The next step is to go to 1909
Interesting. Keep the feedback coming.
yes - this is very interesting info

Even though 1803 worked, 1909 failed with the same hang up at 48%.  The machine is fairly old and I'm ok with leaving it at 1803. I will not pursue any other efforts in this regard as of now.
Did you try a full clean install of 1909 ? , that was the only way to install 1909 on some of our devices, no update method would work.

Do you mean a conversion of my Windows 7 system to 1909 directly? I did try that and it failed. It doesn't pay for me to nuke the system and try to reconstruct all the structure of the existing system.
