Lost onsite Exchange 2016 server in a Hybrid setup, need to reinstall. How?
I have a hybrid setup with Office 365 and the Exchange Server 2016 onsite for management purposes only. I lost my Exchange server, and need to reinstall it on a VM. Does anyone have a friendly guide on how to do this?
Is it not possible to just install a fresh Exchange? This is for the management of O365 only, it doesn't have any databases or anything on it.

Yes, because all exchange config data is stored in AD and recoverserver switch simply pulls that data from AD for you
Even if you tried to run setup in regular mode, it will give you same error message and point you to run recovrserver switch

I got lucky and found a power supply to get the old exchange server back up. Is it possible to remove the mailbox role from that sever and then P2V it? I didnt know if Microsoft made you keep the mailbox role in this hybrid setup.
you could simply backup the physical server and restore to a virtual machine

So I installed another Exchange 2016 VM into the environment. Is there anything special I need to do to Decommission the old Exchange box, or is it just a normal decommission? I dont need to move any mailboxes or anything over.
