App zone is a new name? Please elaborate what you intend mean with it.
As David already told zone are connected to "domains" like DNS has, or systems that support compartmentalization
Solaris can have them. In BSD those are called jails.
In linux containers come close, although the earlier 2 are stronger emphasized on separation from a security standpoint.
XEN probably is closest in the Linux realm.
If less separation is needed a VM /or even less a container solution can help.

So maybe what you mean is a Kernel namespace or creating a containered runtime environment, as with LXD or Docker.
