We tried many free apps (Recuva, etc.) They could recover files/folder but not as good as paid apps. Finally, we ended up with EaseUS Data Recovery For Windows. Never been disappointed. Usually, it's able to recover more than 90% of all data. Sure, it depends on how much is the HDD damaged, however, this is our experience.<br />
