Deploying shared printers

I need assistance deploying printers to computers via gpo or sccm. The printers are on a print server and shared out. We use to do a log in power shell script to do it. That program is no longer available so we need GPO or SCCM.

What’s the best way to do it? We want an adult to site down at a computer and get the printers in that area. We want students to log in and not get any printers.

The users travel between offices and need to print to their site printer at each location.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hello,

GPO should be able to deal this directly if its a static printer assignment.

But if you are looking for dynamically mapping printer based on the office location, Then I would suggest to

1) To have dedicated AD sites for each Office Location

2) Dedicated GPOs for each Office Location which can map the local printer of that location

3) Each Office GPO needs to be assigned to the respective Office Location AD Site

4) GPO preference should be configured to  "Remove this item when it is no longer applied".   By this way, Stale printers will be removed once system detects that a GPO which was applied is no longer relevant.

Hope that helps !

Then use GPO.
GPO -> User configuration -> Preferences -> Printers -> New
Then link it to the OU with adults.

A nice guide is here:

that works for when they are on site but when they go to another building they still get the original printers not the one closest to the computer.
