How to free up space? VMware
Okay, so what is the size of datastore ?
It states the maximum size for the VMDK is 286GB.
You stated size of VMDK is 274GB which is thin provisioned, which is the maximum size it can grow to...
So that leaves 12GB of head room, which is very low on the datastore which also contains swap file and overhead files.
You need to ensure you leave at least 20% free on the datastore, e.g. do not create a virtual machine disk, which fills all the disk.

how can I free up space? this VM keeps shutting down.
No other VMs you can move elsewhere and presumably no snapshots so I think you'll have to add a virtual DVD to it and boot Windows install/repair DVD and delete some unneeded files on it using that.
