Remote License Cal's
How do I change Microsoft Remote Desktop Cal's from device to user Cal's?
When you purchase the CAL's you specify USER or DEVICE (the same price) you can't then switch.
You can do it using several methods:
Go to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControl Set\Contro l\Terminal Server\RCM\Licensing Core - LicensingMode - type 4 to Per User licensing
Via GPO: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop Session Host -> Licensing. > Set the Remote Desktop licensing mode > Per User
You can user PowerShell for that as well - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/remotedesktop/set-rdlicenseconfiguration?view=win10-ps
For more information about RDS licensing: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/remote/remote-desktop-services/rds-client-access-license
Hope this helps!

There appears to be some confusion here. Changing the licensing mode only changes the type of CALs used by a session host or virtualization host; it doesn't change the actual CALs in any way. If you've only got per-device CALs installed and you set the licensing mode to per-user, you've now got zero usable CALs.
As David Johnson says above, when you purchase RD CALs, you purchase them as either per-user or per-device, and you can't change that after the fact. If you bought per-device CALs and find yourself needing per-user CALs, your only option is to purchase per-user CALs. Depending on how recently you purchased the CALs, the seller may give you the option to exchange them, but if you've had them for a significant length of time, this is unlikely.

The company we purchase our RD Cals from says they have only sold us per user Cals. When we installed them we installed them as per device. Is this possible? and if so can we now change the license mode. as shown in?
