Outlook 365 on Windows 10 - "Need Password" - "Click to enter your password for this account."

Hi Experts,

I just cloned the SSD on my Microsoft Surface Pro to a new Microsoft Surface Laptop 3, using Casper.

Now Outlook 365 on the new laptop will say "Needs Password - Click to enter your password for this account" in the bottom right, Clicking just results in the password box just flashing on the screen and disappears.

Notifications also pop up with this message:
Provide your password to use Microsoft Outlook with your xxx@yyy.com.au account. Click here to enter your password.
But that vanishes when I click on it.

Regards,
Leigh

is the xxx@yyy.com.au also the Microsoft account you used for the Windows 10 logon and Office 365 subscription?

Hi Jackie,

You say "You need to remove the mail profile and add it back again."

I have 2 GB in my primary email data:
mincad@pavement-science.com.au.ost in C:\Users\Leigh\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Will those emails need to be downloaded again?

Regards,
Leigh

bbao:

I am not 100% sure, but I don't think the xxx@yyy.com.au is the Microsoft account I use for the Windows 10 logon and Office 365 subscription.

Hi Jackie,

I had 3 mail accounts.

Using Control Panel / Mail I was able to remove 2 accounts.
But when I attempt to remove the account that is the default for sending, I get this message:

Account Settings

Before deleting the email account containing your personal mail, contacts, and calendar data, you must create a new location for your data.
To create a new data location, open the Account Settings dialog box, click the Data Files tab, and then click Add.

Sorry, but when I open the Account Settings dialog box in Outlook, I cannot see a Data Files tab?

I also tried adding the 2 deleted accounts.
Automatic setup failed.
I tried Manual setup, choosing Exchange (that's what's used for the default sending account).
Failed also.

Regards,
Leigh

The quickest way is to just create a new profile, instead of editing your current one. Set default profile to start to this new profile.

Thanks, Kimputer, for your suggestion.

I have created a new profile.

But I'm stuck trying to add my first email account.

We are using Office 365 accounts.

On the "Add Account" dialog I have chosen (*) Office 365.

I'm locked in a loop, I get this warning:

An encrypted connection to your mail server is not available.
Click Next to attempt using an unencrypted connection.

But clicking Next just keeps looping to the above warning!

Leigh

What is the version of Windows 10 in your Surface Pro?

It seems to me that the OS is outdated.

Can you check your autodiscover settings? You can also use the hosts trick to point your autodiscover.domain.com to the correct IP address.

Just for the record, I uninstalled and reinstalled Office 365 - made not difference!

Are your Surface Laptop 3 connected to a domain network?
