Backup to where, and for what purpose? Backup and restore in O365 is Microsoft's responsibility, generally speaking you should have zero need for such. There are few vendors that do offer backups to an external system, but they rarely can backup data across all services, let alone restore it if needed. Whatever the case, dont backup to an PST file, those are insecure and unreliable.

Veeam, Altaro and other companies all say that Microsoft does NOT backup Outlook Data and are not to be trusted. Are they being less than truthful?

If not backing up to a .pst, what, then? Back to my original question...

Microsoft does have comprehensive backup/restore/DR solutions in place, as well as robust compliance solution. What they dont have is a point-in-time backup. Which is the main point on which those vendors try to sell their solutions, as well as spreading some FUD. But feel free to go for their marketing pitch :)

I work for a vendor that makes tons of money helping people get rid of PSTs. DO NOT go for a solution that relies on such. Or go, we might need the additional cash considering the current landscape :D

Thanks for your answer! I suspected as much, but just needed to hear it from an expert.
