HEIC extension

This isn’t necessarily a problem but a question.

Folks at work are getting sent heic pictures. I can get Windows 10 to see the files using the extension you can get for free from the Microsoft store.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/heif-image-extensions/9pmmsr1cgpwg?activetab=pivot:overviewtab

The issue is Microsoft Store is blocked at work. before it was blocked, folks downloaded installed other apps from the store; can’t do that anymore.

If I install Windows, I can download the extension and install for free, but even if I remove the PC from the domain and try wireless doesn’t work. Seems the PC can’t have any trace of the domain in it.

Is there any other way to install the free extension besides going through Microsoft store?

I know there are some appx files out there, but not sure if there’s a appx for extension for heic.

This is work, so I can’t install free programs regarding heic. Such as copytrans. However, it would seems there's another way to install this Microsoft extension w/o going through the store.

Are free apps (that are deployable and are free to use commercially) an option? If yes, look at nomacs or "gimp".

Yes, I read that you wrote "This is work, so I can’t install free programs regarding heic." but I wonder if your network admin may deploy these for you. It would be a matter of minutes.

I got a surprise today.

I go to the website, and the website opens, but usually brings up the Microsoft store window, and then says Microsoft store blocked.
I just assume being the message said Microsoft store block the extension would never install?

I just keep trying, and trying again, closing the blocked windows, but somehow/someway the extension eventually got installed!

Something I may have noticed, it seems the HEVC only works on each user’s accounts, not the whole PC.

Hopefully this is not a onetime occasion.

I'll run the idea to the IT people about the free plugins...thanks for the time & help. Wouldn't call this a solution, but hopefully not a lucky occasion.

This is the best money I have ever spent. I cannot not tell you how many times these folks have saved my bacon. I learn so much from the contributors.
