WordPress: Unable to Add New Text to the Home Page

Hi:

I'm simply trying to add a sentence to a home page.  I clicked "Edit" in the Pages section of WordPress and specifically for the Home Page.

Then, I pasted the text into the Text tab.

But, upon clicking "Preview Changes", the new text does not appear.

The home page has sliding pages.  Is that why?

Afterward, I reviewed Widgets in the Appearance section of WordPress.  Then, I went to "Front Page".  I cannot figure how to do add the text, here.

I'm surprised that this sort of thing isn't easier to accomplish.

How do I add a sentence to the Home Page?

Thanks!

on the Page edit menu on the left, you may have to click the Update button

I see the Update button on the right.  But, that's not going to let me preview beforehand, is it?

Also, I added the text at the bottom in the Page Details section, just as an "attempt".  I did not click save or update.  Yet, that text is still there.  How do I remove it?  I don't want to take a chance on messing anything up.

Thanks!
Then, I pasted the text into the Text tab.

try pasting the text directly into the Page pane, then click on Preview
I did.  That's why I'm "here".  :)
this may help:

If you've made changes to your website's DNS, it can take a few hours for the DNS cache to clear from your computer. To clear your computer's DNS cache:
Windows
From the command line, type:
  • ipconfig /flushdns
I don't administer this server and am rarely on it.  What exactly is clearing the cache going to do?  I don't want to break anything.

The main issue is that previewing changes to the home page is not working.  Previewing is necessary.  I wouldn't dare click the "Update" button without being able to see my changes, first.  That is what I need fixed.
Also, now that I think about it, I'm not on the server.  I'm simply in the WordPress Editor.

I have spent over two hours troubleshooting an issue that is preventing me from adding an eight-word sentence on the home page.  This is ridiculous.
the cache keeps the pages you viewed with your browser and loads 'cached' pages, so instead of reloading the modified page, it loads the cached page

close the browser you are using to modify your site

clear the DNS cache to erase only the cached pages that are on your computer

reopen the browser and go back the the edit page

then retry the edit and select preview
didn't work
well, i really can't help any further - perhaps  you can request help from more experts
Let's start over.  Send a screen shot of what you are looking at on the admin page, when you are editing the Home Page.  There is something being missed here or lost in translation.

Attached is the screenshot.

so - thee is nothing on your Home page as yet

and you say when you add text to the large white pane under the format menu and click on Preview Changes, NOTHING happens

is that correct?
Did you click Preview Changes?  That is what you want, correct?  You want to see your changes before you make them LIVE?

If not, please clarify.
Correct.  When I type text and click the "Preview Changes" button, nothing happens.  Is that because the home page has a slider (i.e. slides that move at regular intervals)?  Regardless, what is the way of overcoming this.  I need to preview the text and then, of course, have the text appear on the home page.  I suppose that it's okay to have the text appear on each slide.

Hi There, Scott:

The following are the questions and answers.  Thank you, for your help!

If nothing what happens if you click publish then preview or just go to the home page?  I'm afraid to publish, prior to previewing the changes.

Is this set to a static page or latest posts?  Static.

Are the home page settings managed by your theme instead of / in addition to the customizer?  Theme.

What theme are you using?  cssigniter.

Is it possible you have a complex theme that is taking over the home page?  Yes.

Hi Scott:

You led me in the right direction!

Yes, they are using what I'm guessing is a specialized theme called "cssignitor".  That's why the "normal/regular" Preview Changes button was not working.

Thank you, again, for your help!

Software Engineer
I am glad you figured it out. I was just on their help pages https://www.cssigniter.com/docs/truenorth/  and was putting some more info together.

I too have multiple sites that use an complex themes. One of those is Avada https://themeforest.net/item/avada-responsive-multipurpose-theme/2833226.. I have switched to using simple free themes then use https://elementor.com/ Some of these themes make it harder in the name of making it easier to add content but I feel elementor solves that problem.

Good luck!
