windows 10, close laptop lid, but don't turn off

Have windows 10 on thinkpad laptop. followed some instructions to keep alive when I close the lid so that I can work on my external monitor. "Do nothing" is the setting. But when I close the lid, the screen turns off. Am I missing a step?

phoffric, I suspect what you have there is an assumption by the manufacturer that when the laptop is folded, there's no reason to keep video on.  It's easy for that to be interpreted by Engineering as "when the laptop is closed, no video should be on."

Did the site with the instructions show this particular model that you have working when the unit is folded?
one thing to note.  there are 2 conditions where you have to set this.  both on battery and on power.  it is  likely you set it for battery but not for while on wall power.

@arnold,
I didn't have to prop the laptop lid.  I restarted, and the external monitor acted as the single monitor. Thank you.
