What could be the cause?

What does it point to for DNS? (It should point to a valid AD DNS server only)

I'll guess you already fixed the issue as of why the server "fell of the domain" to re-join it.
Now, when you want to re-join, you must delete the existing account on AD.
On the other hand, if you can't re-join the domain your error should be something related to that like: AD Domain Controller can not be found, user account not an administrator, etc.
The error you described is mostly encounter when you have an access to a shared resource that no longer exists or credentials do not match. And I think this is your issue and not a re-join issue.
Please double check and confirm.

Ok deleted it the computer account, now i get "the target account name is incorrect"
When do you get that error? When you try to log in? When you try to join the domain?
ASKER
