Find out vms requiring vmwrae tools upgrade

How to determine in VMtools is  out of date  or an upgrade is available for a bulk of windows vms apart from manual method of viewing in the vcenter.

Also, is there is way to make sure, manual snapshots are taken and available for a vm wihtout manually checking at vcenter.
