Understanding Shared Datastore.
Understanding Shared Datastore.
I have Storage with 3 LUNs:
in Vcenter Storage they show up as 3 individual DataStores.
I have added all 3 Datastores to one ESX host, then I realized they show up on the other ESX host too.
I would like to know what makes this Datastore settings replicate to the other ESX host.
Thank you

Here is a tutorial for setting OpenFile with Shared Storage:https://www.vmwarebits.com/content/install-and-configure-openfiler-esxi-shared-storage-nfs-and-iscsi
Reviewing it should help breaking the "shared"

Yes, ESX hosts are in the same Cluster
Would that make adding a shared Datastore to one ESX host will add it automatically to the other ESX Host ?

You create a datastore on a single host, and then add that datastore to the other hosts.
That s what I did .. I have added a shared store to one Host and when I selected the other host I found out that the Datastore is showing up

Actually I added total 3 shared datastore to one ESX host, the other ESX host got them.. is it supposed to be that way when Hosts are in the same Cluster ?
ASKER
when you add new datastore to an ESX host you will be presented by the available LUNs ...each datastore you create you select the corresponding LUN
in my case both ESX Hosts are seeing the same LUNs
For instance if you create Shared Datastore 1 from LUN1 on ESX Host 1, since ESX Host2 also is seeing the same LUN1 then the corresponding Share Datastore 1 will also be seen by ESX Host 2

Yes, but if the datastores all have different datastores names on all the hosts, this is not correct.
they should all have the same name.
they should all have the same name.

that looks good.

I think it's because you have your hosts as a cluster...if i am not mistaken you have made the mapping on cluster level not on ESXi host.
Probably that s how it supposed to work.
Thank you Guys
The hosts think they are different, and therefore not shared.
How did you create and present them to the hosts ?
