wsus types confusion.
getting confused with the various types of update. I thought security only was just that one update nothing historical. and cumulative was historical as well. but we also see quarterly security only and quarterly roll up
also wsus offline (third party app) . if I skip a month will I be missing patches after I put the next month in, if they were security only ?

sorry I can’t read 😊 security only Quality update. not quarterly

so would it be correct to say. for example. June security only kb1234. will be in July security roll up. (or the issue it fixed addressed at least ). I just want to be sure. the offline boxes we do. if I miss a month. the security only fixes are captured in next months cycle.

Monthly Rollup = A tested, cumulative set of updates for a specific period.
If this is a rollup Windows update, you only need the most recent update. If you skipped February, go to March.
What updates contain. I like this explanation.
The "Security Only UPDATE" is not cumulative. The "Monthly Quality ROLLUP", "Preview ROLLUP", and "CUMULATIVE IE updates" are cumulative.
The "Monthly Rollup" contains all updates (Security, Quality (non-security), and IE)
The "Security Only" contains only the current month security updates. (so provides small download method to remain security patched, if all are applied monthly, or way to skip a problem month patch... if you never apply a rollup)
The "Preview Rollup" is the next month's (cumulative) Quality updates, and this months rollup.
The "Cumulative IE update" is ... just what is says, all updates for IE to date.
