We do it a lot with our small two node Hyper-V and/or Storage Spaces Direct cluster nodes.

The network cards will take care of making the connection. A .5m passive copper cable with the correct end on it is all that is needed.

With a dual-port setup we would set up two subnets making sure port to port is connected.

Not sure which port is which? Then leave one cable connected and the other not. Set up the subnet on the connected ports then connect the other cable and set up the subnet on those ports.

Since they will be used for Live Migration I suggest setting up Jumbo Packets to the maximum the NIC ports can handle. That will greatly improve the network's performance.
