First of all you are running an unsupported OS and Outlook. Please consider moving to Windows10 and Outlook 2013/2016<br />

Anyway please try to open outlook in safe mode. Run this command from &quot;Run&quot;<br />
outlook.exe /safe<br />

Try to open open outlook in compatibility mode.<br />
Right-click the ‘outlook.exe’ program.<br />
In ‘Properties’ dialog box, go to the ‘Compatibility’ tab<br />
See if ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ checkbox is checked or not.

Note that MAS's comment about <mark>outlook.exe</mark> is for Outlook. The executable for Outlook Express is <mark>msimn.exe</mark>. Regards, Joe

I meant outlook express. &nbsp;( This client has ms and can only use voice dictation with dragon naturally speaking. we attempted to use windows 10, Mozilla Thunderbird, and also outlook 365 but she just could not get it, so we are trying to use xp and outlook express as long as we can) <br />

I would try much harder with that approach. All of those products are modern and will play nicely together.<br />

As my previous comment says, that makes no sense, because <mark>outlook.exe</mark> is the executable for Outlook, not Outlook Express. If you want to try that idea, do it on <mark>msimn.exe</mark>, which is the executable for Outlook Express, although you're likely to get that message, since Outlook Express is, indeed, part of XP. Doesn't hurt to try, though. Longer term, however, you need to move to modern software, such as the products you mentioned above. Regards, Joe<br />

Appcompat.txt is an error file generated by the compatibility mode of Windows XP when a program crashes unexpectedly.<br />
Make note of the location of the file and open it in notepad. The contents may give you a clue as to what caused the crash.<br />
As you see the number of DLL’s causing the issue, you may refer the following methods and update us with the results.<br />

Last resort: build yourself a install media that has windows xp sp3 and over install windows xp (you will need over &nbsp;100 updates as well

Ok, now it's working. I backed up all of the OE .DBX files, and deleted the originals.

If you do some google searching you might still find software to recover any lost emails if the end user still needs them.

Thank you all for your help on this issue. &nbsp;Once I backed up all of the folders and deleted them I was able to get outlook express to working and then I just copied the folders back except a few (like inbox, deleted, sent, etc) and everything worked fine.
