I have rebooted to no avail. &nbsp;This is not on a domain, but rather a PC on a four-user LAN in a small office. &nbsp;If I click on Start and search on Windows Update, these two have the generic icon next to them and they do nothing:<br />

Windows Update<br />
Check for updates<br />
<br />
&quot;Turn automatic updating on or off&quot; has the generic icon as well, but when I select it I get this error:<br />
Windows cannot find (long hex string)...\pageSettings'.<br />

Then there are several with a blue flag to the left that DO go to a control screen, including &quot;Check security status&quot;, on that view it gives me a link in the lower left to go to &quot;Windows Update&quot;, but when I click on it nothing at all happens.<br />

If something is corrupted in Windows, I would need to know if there is a SAFE way to get access to the Windows Update screens without going &quot;from bad to worse&quot;, since this customer is 800 miles away, meaning I cannot take a chance of crashing their OS.

Customer was trying to install QuickBooks 2020 on a Win7 PC when it said some Windows updates are required. &nbsp;The problem is that I cannot get to the normal Windows Update screens. &nbsp;On the control panel it says &quot;Windows Update&quot; but the icon is a generic folder. &nbsp;If I click on the Start button and search for Windows Update I see the same thing--a generic folder icon that does nothing. &nbsp;No errors...it just doesn't go anywhere or do anything.<br />
