Migrate from SBS 2008 to Server 2019

Have not worked on SBS servers, and need to replace a new clients SBS 2008 with a Server 2019.  Looking for advice on the migration.  Both servers have Hyper-V and run in a domain.

Hi Jason.
Please check this..
This is an error. But you can follow the same.
Take a backup of your 2008 server and migrate from FRS to DFSR.
Please ask me if yuo need more info.

This looks like the winning ticket.  I will keep this open until the migration is complete.  As this won't be for at least a week.
Important note: DO NOT transfer FSMO roles from SBS server until you're ready to demote the SBS Server.  SBS Servers MUST be the FSMO master DC. If they are not, they have a grace period, but after that grace, they will begin shutting themselves down periodically (every couple of hours).

Also, you'll want to PROPERLY uninstall Exchange before demoting the SBS server to a member server.  Finally, make sure you remove SBS specific group policies from applying.

Exchange is not used on this server, but I assume software was not removed.
Even if Exhange is not removed you have to uninstall Exchange from SBS.

We are going to go the start fresh route.  However, I would like advice on how to move the user profiles (W10) quickly from old domain to new domain.  They were not roaming profiles on the server.  I can disjoin from domain and connect to a new domain, but can I use the existing profile and move to new domain?

You can use USMT or ForensiT tool. This is probably one of the best.

Profwize (User Profile Wizard) as I mentioned earlier in the week is a free tool you can use.  The paid version allows you to script but no need for it unless moving dozens of profiles.

I did a blog article many years ago about using it.  In the article the machines were disjoined manually, but joined to the new domain and the profile migrated with Profwwiz.  Read it over, it will give you a much better idea of how the tool works.  You can use it to move multiple profiles, one at a time, from one machine if they exist but don't use the join domain option for the additional profiles.

Note:  regardless of the method used, make sure you have a local admin account and password for the PC.  The domain account will no longer work for logins once disjoined from the existing domain.
Thank you so much to everyone who responded!  All of the responses were used to get my final solution.  I have chosen to just create a new domain and migrate profiles using the free software that Rob recommends.
A lot less clean up with a clean install.  Best of luck with it.
Thanks,
