I want to cleanup diskspace used by the outdated downloaded Windows updates on a file server.

the issue with deleting patch caches is that if that application is modified/patched again, that the required chain will be broken.

in the registry, you can find it in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Up
However, do NOT manually cleanup the content folder by deleting things manually.
Go to options -> server cleanup wizard in the wsus console else you could have database issues if you try to delete files manually
