for windows use the built in remote assistance
Depends on the level of support you need to offer.  If you're providing remote tech support, in most cases, that's done for profit and finding tools that will help you make money without charging you a little for themselves will be difficult.

If the user wants to show you something or so, VNC is fine in a local network. For admin tasks use RDP.

For the support across the Internet, use Windows built-in Quick Assist. No installation is required. The user just types "Quick Assist" to the search box and opens the application.
Then he clicks on "Get Assistance" and tells you the code. Job done.

Another option is TeamViewer. Instal it on the admin computer (with proper licensing) and use TeamViewer QuickSupport on the client machines(no installation required).
We recently moved our clients from LogMeIn to ScreenConnect and have been very happy with it

Hi Paul:

Does the person that you're supporting and helping have to have Chrome as their default browser?  What if they have, say, Internet Explorer or Edge?

Software Engineer
as far as i, understand, only Google Chrome
Teamviewer is better, but only free for non-professional use...
