Convert access97 databases and code to Access2016

I want to convert an Access97 mdb to access2016. Is there a way to do that? I no longer have an Access97 CD or an Access2013 CD to step through a conversiion process like that. Do I have to repurchase Access97 and Access2013 to make the conversion?

'97 was compatible upto to and including Access 2010.  So you need 2007 or 2010 to upgrade the database to accdb file format and from there all should be good.  If you have a choice 2010 is the way to go, 2007 was very poor.

Thanks!  I no longer have any of my recent Office CDs except for 2013. Where can I purchase Access2010?
Lenny,

I can do that for you.  Let me know if you need an NDA signed.

e-mail it to:  jimdettman"at"online-computer-services.net if it's under 50MB (zip it please).   If not, we can setup a dropbox share.

Jim.

Thanks, Jim for you kind offer. There are too many mdbs to convert (about 20).

I found Access2010 online for $25 and downloaded the setup exe. Interestingly, When I ran the install, I got an error telling me that there was Office 2016 on my machine and that it would not install until I removed Office 2016 !!  Are there any workarounds that you would know about?
Big or small?  Even 20 would not take that long.   Just have to open them up and save them.

Still willing to do it if you want...

Jim.

Don't you have a spare machine or a VM to install Access 2010.
<<Are there any workarounds that you would know about? >>

It depends as to why, but as John said, cleanest is another station without Access, or a VM.

I'd be very hesitant though to install Access that I got for $25 in anything other than a VM.  Who knows what might come with it.

Jim.

Thanks for the advice. Let's hope that nothing bad happens.

You were great!  I decided to uninstall Office pro 2016, install the access 2010, do the conversions, uninstall access 2010 and reinstall 2016.

Thanks, again!

Hi All,

I just wanted to than you all for your assistance today. I was able to convert all of my Access97 MDBs to Access2016 thanks to all of you. I got lucky with the $25 purchase but I was worried.

I had to uninstall Office Pro 2016 before installing the Access2010.

As it turned out the software worked although I had difficulty uninstalling it.

Since it was not a clean uninstall, when I reinstalled Office Pro 2016, it uninstalled the Access2010 cleanly (I checked the control panel to make sure.

I also ran a full Norton360 scan which uncovered only 10 cookies which were removed. I do not know if that Access2010 left the cookies.

Thanks, again for your generosity and kindness.

Be safe out there.

Lenny
