What exactly? VNC is fine. Maybe you need a different version of VNC (RealVNC, TightVNC, UltraVNC, TigerVNC and so on...). If you want an alternative product, you can try AnyDesk, LogMeIn or Chrome Remote Desktop.<br />

For admin tasks, you can use RDP.<br />

For the support across the Internet, use Windows built-in Quick Assist. No installation is required. The user just types &quot;Quick Assist&quot; to the search box and opens the application. Then he clicks on &quot;Get Assistance&quot; and tells you the code. Job done.<br />

Another option is TeamViewer. Instal it on the admin computer (with proper licensing) and use TeamViewer QuickSupport on the client machines(no installation required).

Quick Assist is not possible, as I forgot to mention that this is non-interactive use that is more intended for 24/7 admin connections.<br />

Then go for VNC which meets the requirements. What exactly does not work for you?

As far as VNC goes i simply want a basic client-server setup that was simple to set up a long time ago, but downloading VNC now I instead get a convoluted setup with login credentials, and for some reason it simply does not work as intended as I cannot connect with VNC client despite server running on target machine with firewall open. It is possible that i simply do something wrong but since troubleshooting has proved quite time consuming I am pursuing alternative product for same purpose.<br />

It will re-use the already existing session. If it does not do that for you, you configured it differently (to use a session of its own).

For clarification, RDP connections will use the existing session so it is not problem that a new session is created but rather that the connected screen on the target computer will not reflect what is happening in the session.<br />

That is, running a video display software program remotely will show in the remote console, but it will not show on a connected screen to the target computer. RDP can run many different sessions, but to my understanding these sessions are not the same as the main GUI console session which is something different.<br />

4. Select Additional tasks (don't change anything) -&gt; Next<br />
5. Click on Install<br />
6. After that, a new window shows up -&gt; set up the password for &quot;Password for Remote Access&quot; and &quot;Administrative Password&quot; -&gt; Ok -&gt; Finish<br />

Install TightVNC Viewer or RealVNC Viewer, it doesn't matter. It will work.<br />

I think I see what you're getting at. If you RDP into a remote computer, a user sitting in front of that computer won't be able to see what's happening on a screen connected to it; all he will see is a lock screen. Hence the need for utilities which don't do that!<br />

Have a look at WaykNow - it's free and not resource hungry. Although its feature set isn't huge it may well do what you want.

Thanks for the response, I tried different types of VNC but I always get &quot;vnc gracefully closed connection&quot; on this specific computer although VNC works fine on different computers. It seems to be a specific computer issue,and therefore alternative needed (not cloud based since target does not have internet access)<br />
