How to convert VHS tapes to DVD

Hi,

We have a few old VHS tapes that we would like to convert to DVD.

We have some blank DVDs (4.7GB 16x DVD-R) that we would like to convert these VHS tapes to.

The device we were planning to use to do this was Tevion MD 42397 VCR / DVD player combo unit that we have.

We have the cable connections for it to connect to TV but unsure of where the remote for it is.

I am unsure how to convert the VHS tapes as no manual online and see no record button on the device.

How would you recommend we convert our VHS tapes to DVD?

Thanks,
Robbie

The Tevion device you have doesn't have DVD recording capabilities, so it won't do the job of recording.

I would suggest a couple of possibilities: If you only have a few VHS tapes, look into companies that can do the copying for you.  You may find the effort to do the copying isn't worth the cost savings and their quality may be much better than what you'll get if you do it yourself.

This is the sort of device and software that will allow you to do it yourself:

I would also suggest considering carefully if DVD video format is really what you want.  These days, it may be much more convenient to put it in a more computer-friendly format such as MP4.

No cables from VCR to get the audio video of the VHS tape to the desktop or laptop computer?
Then burn to DVD.
@nickg5: the more likely problem is nothing to plug the video into on the laptop.  That's pretty unusual without an external device such as the ones suggested above.

Hi,

Thank you all for your help.

I got this working with an old device we had stored in our office.

The device is called Ion VCR 2 PC and we used software EZ Video Converter.

With this we could record VHS tape on to laptop and burn to DVD.

We are now looking for a better and more modern version of the VCR 2 PC device for converting VHS to PC / DVD.

What would you recommend as a better and newer version of VCR 2 PC video converter device?

Thanks,
Robbie
iposted some links with convertors
Here is a list of top converters  for Windows 10. Dated late 2020 it should easily top the older device you have.
