I would suggest a couple of possibilities: If you only have a few VHS tapes, look into companies that can do the copying for you. You may find the effort to do the copying isn't worth the cost savings and their quality may be much better than what you'll get if you do it yourself.

I would also suggest considering carefully if DVD video format is really what you want. These days, it may be much more convenient to put it in a more computer-friendly format such as MP4.
