asked on

running VB6 from a web browser?

I was perusing the internet for ideas on my VB6 program and noticed a blog where a user was utilizing "Web Browser Control"   Can someone give me some advice on what web browser control does or allows?  Is this something that would allow users to access a VB6 application via a web browser?

I really doubt you will be able to run a VB6 .exe application. Those applications were made to run on Windows. A Web Browser control can only be used to open web sites and PDF files

Gotcha, that answers my question.  Best way to go is to convert the software into .NET

You could write ActiveX Controls but they are limited to working with IE although some claim third party plugins exist.  I hate to say it, but VB6 is dead.  I wish it weren't, but it is. Even Microsoft has given up on IE so trying to write stuff that has IE preferences or requirements is just not a good thing these days (honestly, it never was in my opinion).

Visual Basic is Microsoft’s event-driven programming language and integrated development environment (IDE) for its Component Object Model (COM) programming model. It is relatively easy to learn and use because of its graphical development features and BASIC heritage. It has been replaced with VB.NET, and is very similar to VBA (Visual Basic for Applications), the programming language for the Microsoft Office product line.
